Cha — Call for Submissions — “Writing Japan” Issue (June 2017)

christopher-anthony-leibow_blue-whiteCha: An Asian Literary Journal is now accepting submissions for “Writing Japan,” an edition of the journal devoted to work from and/or about Japan.

Our special issue “Writing Japan” encompasses writing from and/or about Japan, broadly imagined. We hope to feature work by Japanese writers and non-Japanese writers writing in relation to Japan, as well as work that challenges fixed ideas about Japanese identity and the Japanese experience. We are looking for idiosyncratic and intelligent work that explores the various meanings of “Writing Japan.”

Cha‘s “Writing Japan” issue will feature translations, poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual art. The issue will be published in June 2017. If you have something original to say about Japan, we would like to hear from you. Please note that we can only accept submissions in English or translated into English.

We are pleased to announce that Cha former contributors James Shea and Kyoko Yoshida will be joining Cha as guest editors for this issue. They will read the submissions and solicit work along with the co-editors Tamara Ho and Jeff Zroback.

The Book Reviews section will be devoted exclusively to books related to the theme of the issue. If you have a recent book that you think would be right for review in “Writing Japan,” we encourage you to contact our Reviews Editor Eddie Tay at eddie@asiancha.com. Books should be sent to Eddie before the end of January 2017.

If you would like to have work considered for Cha’s “Writing Japan” issue, please submit the work by email to submissions@asiancha.com by 31 March 2017. Please include “Writing Japan” in the subject line of the email. Submissions to the issue should conform to our guidelines.
